Background: Rebecca was returned to her breeder, as her family were moving to a bigger house, which didn’t allow dogs. We found she’s deaf, but that didn’t stop her learning all the basic commands, with hand signals, in a very short time. She’s very calm and gentle, and is loving visits to both young and old.
Fun Fact: She is actually Thandi’s niece, and they have many similar family traits.

Background: Rocky is a very loving dog and he loves people a lot! He is very friendly and a happy dog! He has the cutest eyes and he is just a cutey!
Fun Fact: Rocky loves to eat all the time and likes to take long naps and plays alot!

Background: I chose Rio because of his relaxed personality and wavy hair (strange for a Rottweiler!). We always wanted a Rottweiler but a loving one. And what is exactly what Rio is. He is just a big teddy bear!
Fun Fact: Rio loves waking up our kids on a Saturday morning with his big nose in their faces! And... playing pulling rope with our other Rottweiler Kaylie!

Background: Rolo was welcomed into our home at 8 weeks old and the two dachshunds were very excited about the new member of the family. Rolo has brought so much happiness into our lives since she first walked into our home.
Fun Fact: Rolo is a professional sock thief and has even learnt how to open my draw to steal my socks.

Background: Adopted (from Ark) on 30 January 2016. She was supposed to be a "proper" dalmatian, but when she stopped growing I had her dna tested, to discover she is crossed with a bit of Boston Terrier.
Fun fact: She has one doggie brother and four kittie siblings. She stole one of the "kitty cave" beds as a puppy and still sleeps in it every night.

Regular Handler: Jenny Juzi
Background: Ranger was adopted from Border Collie Rescue after being brought in as a stray. He lives with two other dogs, a cat and several chickens. He has completed some basic obedience training and has recently started Dog Agility.
Fun Fact: Ranger is a bit of a thief. He will quietly pick up anything he can reach, from the TV remote to my handbag, and make himself a little stash on the lawn.

Background: As a puppy I started off life by being donated to the SA Guide Dogs but that did not work out so at the age of 18 months, in 2014 I was adopted by Belinda who is my friend and handler.
Fun Fact: My favourite hobbies are of course eating anything that comes my way and relaxing at home either on the sofa or perhaps in the garden. I love my daily walks in the park and especially chasing my tennis ball, swimming and playing with my friends. I joined the Top Dog team in 2015 and my visits are the highlight of my week.

Background: I found Sage outside a KFC in Brakpan at 6 weeks old. At first she was a very shy and timid little girl but that quickly changed.
Fun Fact: Sage absolutely loves her tennis ball and often gets in her hyperactive moods which has her doing the most bizarre and funny things. She is a true gentle giant who wouldn’t harm a soul and I saw this first hand when fostering stray kittens - Sage was my right hand girl often guiding me on what to do. Watching her mother them was one of my greatest experiences.

Background: We acquired Schatzi when we returned from a holiday in Germany and saw so many Goldies there. Schatzi attended Puppy School where she excelled. She loves everybody and all other dogs, is the social butterfly at the park where I walk her and she shares her home with Oscar the maltese and two cats.She loves to go to the sea where she body surfs and loses stacks of balls in the sea!
Fun Fact: She just loves to play on the top step of our pool where she is kept busy for hours playing with the leaves etc on the floor of the pool. Sometimes she is so engrossed she does not even want her supper!

Background: Skriffeltjie was a scared and timid lady when she 1st arrived in our home. She cowered when you loosened your belt and spent most of her days under a blanket. After much TLC she blossomed into the most loving dog. She is confident to meet new people, and has a special fondness for smaller children.
Fun fact: she is a very successful hunter of rodents and birds, and her second favourite pastime is taking naps on a pillow under the spare bed.

Background: She was rescued after people moved out of a house and abandoned her. She lives on a small holding with my husband and I, her brother Max, a Belgian Shepherd and 4 Terrier brothers & sisters who are all rescues. She also has 2 brother Main Coon Cats. Fun Fact: She loves to play in her shell filled with water. She will splash and bite the water and has now taught her brother the Belgian Shepherd to do it too. She loves going to dog training on a Sunday morning so she can socialise with all her human and dog friends.

Background: Belle and Steven are brother and sister and come from a long line of TOP Dogs. Their grandparents, Mowgli and April were founder members of TOP Dogs, and Frank is their uncle. Pugs love to be with people. Visiting, sitting on laps, and cuddling, is just what this pug family has loved to do over the years with Top Dogs!
Fun Fact: Steven loves very long grass and he turns on his back and wiggles his way through the grass making tunnels till he comes out the other side!

Background: Sansa was originally adopted from Ark Animal Centre in 2013 by a close friend but ended up growing too big and became too boisterous to live in a complex. I then adopted her and brought her to live on our farm where she happily runs circles around the horses all day, swims in the river and generally causes nonsense with my other dogs. She started with general obedience classes and proved to be a very quick learner. She now has a couple of obedience certificates to her name!
Fun Fact: Her one ear is always up and the other is always down!

Background: Quip came to me at 7 weeks of age from SA Guide Dogs as I'm a puppy raiser for them. I raised him with the potential of him becoming a guide dog but unfortunately he was withdrawn from their program for health reasons at just over a year old.
Fun Fact: Quip is very food focused and therefore easy to train. He loves to drive in the car with his chin on the windowsill watching the world go by, especially when it's safe to open the window. He loves to work and gets very excited when I take his Top Dog jacket out. He is a very relaxed dog spending most of his day with us nearby.

Background: Spot was seen wandering around on the farms where we live for a few weeks. When we eventually managed to catch her, she decided to adopt us.
Fun Fact: Spot is a very talented escape artist and regularly goes down to the river at the bottom of our farm, all by herself, for a swim.

Background: Shelby was going to be a breeding male dog and did not have a human. Now he has a human and thinks I belong to him only. He has a Africana sister as well as a pitbull brother and sister. He thinks he is twice their size and can beat them as any game!
Fun Fact: He loves all the work but is better outdoors with his blanket and two leads!

Background: We were on the waiting list for 2 years before we got Thandi as a puppy. She started Therapy puppy visits at 11 weeks old, and just loved going to new places and meeting new people. She passed her assessment in January 2007, aged 8 months. She loves all types of visits.
Fun Fact: She's a real character and likes to 'talk' and 'sing' to those we visit

Background: Tommy was adopted from the SPCA and is the most loving old man - always ready to give a morning hug, and the puppy in him comes out when he goes for his daily walk in the park. He tolerates the 2 cats, and gets on very well with the other 2 dogs. Ollie is his Top Dogs partner in crime. They love their Top Dogs outings.
Fun Fact: When Tommy is on the bed or couch he hates being touched by the cats or dogs and actually moans! He guards the oven when Mark makes dinner and is always ready for an “accidental drop”.

Background: Sophie was found on the streets in January 2013, when she was about 6 weeks old - we adopted her and have never looked back. She has done Bronze, Silver and Gold CGC - she loves everyone and every dog. She has just adopted her own baby - a little Maltese that was dumped in Orange Grove and has had 4 homes in his short 14 weeks of life. She absolutely loves him and is a really good senior dog!!
Fun Fact: Has 5 minutes of madness every morning after doing a 4 km walk!! Runs around the house as if she has not had enough exercise!!!

Background: Our loving and friendly Tia (aka Tinki) flew into JHB all the way from Paulspietersberg, KZN when she was 8 weeks old. She arrived home and absolutely took over our home and formed the sweetest friendships with our other 4 dogs and everyone else our household.
Fun Fact: Tia may sometimes be viewed as more human than dog! She LOVES small blue tennis balls and spends her days rolling them into the swimming pool only to jump in and retrieve them. Also, kisses. Lots of kisses.

Background: Tammy is the 4th Cavalier I've owned and the first one I've had since she was a puppy. All my Cavaliers have been members of TOP Dogs, so as soon as she was old enough, Tammy followed in their footsteps. She is a happy, friendly little dog who enjoys being out and about and meeting new people.
Fun Fact: Tammy loves learning new tricks and playing "chase me" with any dog willing to participate.

Background: Tarkan comes from a lovely breeder in Klerksdorp, his direct family is actively involved in Cheetah protection program. We got him in July 2016 at the age of 4 months. He is a super fun dog with loads of energy but not your typical Anatolian Shepherd. He adores human company and will try sit on your lap at even the smallest opportunity.
Fun Fact: Tarkan is a very good landscaper and a big goof ball.

Background: Travis is a fun loving guy. He loves to be around children. Loves swimming and going for walks. When walking loves to carry his own lead in his mouth. Just a general happy dog.
Fun Fact: Travis is opening birthday and Christmas presents. Loves to help carry in groceries, walks around with a cucumber in his mouth.

Background: Thandi grew up with her mom, Ella - a brood-bitch of SA Guide Dogs, as part of the Van der Merwe family. Her sister, the only puppy from a previous litter of Ella, passed away when Thandi was six months old. This results in Thandi and her mom have to be in quarantine for a whole year. SA Guide Dogs wanted to use Thandi as a brood bitch also, but she tested positive on hip dysplasia.
Fun Fact: Thandi’s behaviour is the meaning of her name: LOVE - always smiling and friendly!

Background: We got Tessie from a breeder in Benoni, both her parents were imported - her mother from Spain and her father from Belgium. Tessie is 5 years old and she is the most affectionate, gentle, intelligent, and loyal dog I have ever owned.
Fun Facts: True to her breed,Tessie loves lying out on the lawn on the coldest of winter days looking over the valley and sniffing the wind - she even does this when it is raining! However, conversely, she will lie across my daughter’s knee in front of the fire until her coat is burning hot and we have to tell her to move away!

Regular Handler: Vanessa Garland
Background: Tango was adopted from the Vereeniging SPCA in October 2015. She had been bred and trained as a SAPS Narcotics K9. Both her parents were SAPS K9’s who later became a breeding pair upon their retirement. Tango was found “not yet competent” during her final qualifying test with SAPS, as she has too short an attention span to fulfill the role of a Narcotics K9, and was put up for adoption.
Fun Fact: Tango loves playing with balls…tennis balls however are methodically shredded, so the virtually indestructible rubber Kong balls are preferred.
